PRISON REENTRY INITIATIVE STEERING TEAM

Staff from Workforce Development at NWGRC recently attended the regular Prison Reentry Initiative Steering Team meeting to provide information about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the Northwest Georgia Mobile Career Center.

The goal of the Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative (GA-PRI) is to enhance public safety by reducing crime through the implementation of a seamless plan of services and supervision developed with each returning citizen—delivered through state and local collaboration—from the time of their entry to prison through their successful transition, reintegration and aftercare in the community. Staff from the Department of Community Supervision (DCS), in conjunction with corrections professionals and local community service providers, assist returning citizens in navigating barriers to successful reentry in an effort to ultimately increase public safety and reduce recidivism. GA-PRI’s “designated returning citizens” are those that have been released from prison and who are considered to be at a moderate-to-high risk of reoffending based on the Georgia Department of Corrections’ risk instrument.
