Shaw Job Fair

The Region 1 Business Services Unit of the Georgia Department of Labor assisted Shaw Industries with a recruitment event on July 18, 2016. The Bartow County College and Career Academy in Cartersville, Georgia hosted the event.  According to Vicki Thompson, OJT Career Adviser at LaFayette Department of Labor, over five hundred fifty (550) job seekers were served. The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Mobile Career Center staffed by two NWGRC I.T. staff, assisted job seekers with computers to complete Shaw Industries online applications. Qualified candidates were interviewed at the event. All candidates were screened for On-the-job-training and many OJT agreements were initiated. The Shaw Industries recruitment event was held from 9am to 7pm to accommodate working applicants.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)

WIOA requires VR set aside 15% of their grant to expend on students with disabilities in schools. This investment is significantly greater than the investment made in previous years. WIOA is striving to reach many more students than in the past.

WIOA requires that people with disabilities that are paid a subminimum wage receive career counseling and other services. People with disabilities ages 24 and younger receive services designed to improve their access to competitive integrated employment, including transition services, Vocational Rehabilitation and career counseling services, before they are employed at a subminimum wage.
