Career Depot – April 28, 2017

Trade Adjustment Assistance

A Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) petition was certified for Trinity North American Freight Car Inc. (Trinity Rail) on March 17, 2017 for the Cartersville location.  Carolyn Barrett, Workforce Special Programs Coordinator with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, coordinated an orientation session with the Georgia Dept. of Labor’s Trade Division, Renda Wicks, Trade Adjustment Assistance Coordinator, for laid off workers from Trinity Rail. The session was held at the Cartersville Dept. of Labor Career Center on April 27, 2017 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  TAA may provide training assistance and other resources to the laid off workers.

Welder Qualification

Chattahoochee Technical College has partnered with Northwest Ga. Regional Commission to offer short-term training for Welder Qualification.  Passing this training and certification (in accordance with American Welding Society structural code) can help you get your foot in the door!  Contact Cynthia Brown at 770-443-7958 or Cynthia.Brown@Chattahoocheetech.edu.  The price is one thousand five hundred forty four dollars ($1,544) with funding available through WIOA.  The location will be Chattahoochee Technical College-Paulding Campus in Dallas.  Classes will be held six Fridays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Individual Training Agreement Program Approved

The Workforce Development Board has approved Southeast Lineman Training Center’s Communications Lineworker Program (CLP) and it will be included on the Eligible Provider List.  The program began in July 2016.  The program covers areas such as Telecom Line Work, Rigging Fundamentals and introduction to Telecommunications Cables.

Retirement News

Northwest Georgia Regional Commission (NWGRC) and the Workforce Development Board and staff would like to congratulate Gwen Dellinger on her recent retirement.  Mrs. Dellinger has served Northwest Georgia’s citizens for the past forty three (43) years.  Under her guidance as workforce Development Director the workforce system has been served by the Comprehensive Employment Training Act (CETA), Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA), Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Her direction and valuable service to the fifteen (15) county area in NW Georgia will be greatly missed.  A retirement party was held in her honor on March 31, 2017 at North Broad Baptist Church in Rome.  Mrs. Dellinger is looking forward to spending time with her family.

Randy Gayler, ITA Coordinator with the WIOA Department at NWGRC retired April 30, 2017 after twenty two (22) years of service.  Mr. Gayler is looking forward to volunteering in his community and possibly traveling.

New WIOA DIRECTOR

Lesia Lambert was recently promoted to Director of Workforce at NWGRC in Rome.  Mrs. Lambert previously held the position of Workforce Program Manager at NWGRC.  She has worked with the workforce program since 1995 with twenty two (22) years of service.

One-Stop

Over the past few months a committee of NWGRC WIOA staff along with GDOL and partner agencies have met to coordinate a one stop delivery system in NW Georgia.

Disaster Response Plan          

A disaster response plan and a contact list of county commissioners and emergency management agency directors was approved with procedures on responding and providing resources to the fifteen (15) counties during a local disaster or emergency.
